Mind Sports Olympiad 2002 in Prague (Olympiáda duševních sportů)

June 20 - 23, 2002, Praha, Tyršův dům, Újezd 42

What can you expect?

The Olympic Games test one's physical shape so why not organize an Olympiad to compare mental capabilities? As exactly these skills make a man to be a human. The idea of such olympiad was first realized 1997 in London and it deserved a reputation of the world's biggest meeting of board games players and mental sportsmen.

And how do mental skills get measured? With tournaments (for beginners or for masters) in board games, as well as with various memory tests and quizzes. The general public on the other hand may welcome the possibility to learn and try new games and possibly to take part in beginners' tournaments, which there will be a broad scale of. The events for the broad public will be held in Tyršův dům on June 21 - 23, from 9:00 till 23:00. All the time the visitors will be able to learn and immediately play any game FOR FREE in our Ludiatheque (we have about 100 games).

The event is dedicated to all playful people from all over the world, young and old, experts as well as amateurs. Everyone can play and learn something new. Besides "comparing mental skills" the visitor can learn how to have a good time while training their brain. Moreover, the board games break barriers. No matter who you are, what is your age, belief, race or physical disability, the only what matters is the power of your brain.

The Olympiad is organized by the non-profit association Duha, part Děsír - Board Games Club Paluba, in cooperation with the Czech Go Association, Czech Federation of Draughts, Czech Chess Union, Czech Scrabble Association, Czech Federation of Othello, and a few volunteers.
